April 13, 2012: Brian will receive funding from the Canada Council for the Arts to compose a new work for Toronto's New Music Concerts, to be premiered in Spring 2013.

March 7, 2012: Brian will present a paper at the University of Toronto Music Graduate Student Symposium in early May, 2012 entitled "Architecture and Revelry as Metaphors in a Spatial Approach to Music Composition". The paper will discuss his orchestral work Supposed Spaces.

February 10, 2012: Brian will participate in nu:nord, a Canada-Norway new music exchange project in Montreal in early July, 2012, and compose a new work for solo clarinet for Mark Bradley.

February 7, 2012: Brian selected as the composer facilitator for the Master Class Youth Series in Midland, ON in June, 2012. He will develop a composition and piano workshop in collaboration with the Canadian Music Centre, Conservatory Canada, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation.

January 30, 2012: Brian awarded commissioning funds from the Ontario Arts Council for a new chamber work that he will write for Sudbury's 5-Penny New Music Ensemble (Ensemble de musique contemporaine du gros 5 sous).

December 15, 2011: Brian's orchestral work Supposed Spaces selected to be part of Canada's Submission to the 2013 Conference of the International Society of Contemporary Music (ISCM)

December 1, 2011: Commissioned by Code d'accès of Montreal to compose a duo for violin and cello for performance in October 2012 in Montreal.

September 6, 2011: Brian in attendance at the Gaudeamus Festival in Utrecht, the Netherlands, attending a huge variety of contemporary music concerts.

September 4, 2011: in Vienna for a few days, Brian worked with Ajtony Csaba and the Wiener Jeunesse Kammerchor on the new set of choral miniatures he is composing for performance in Vienna in May 2012.

August 24, 2011 : in the Czech Republic! Brian stopped into the Czech Music Information Centre in Prague, Czech Republic to pick up some CDs of contemporary Czech music and saw the beautiful grave site of Antonin Dvorak

July 10, 2011: An incredible trip with my partner to New Zealand and Australia, complete with visits to new music centres in both countries: Soundz in Wellington, New Zealand and the Australian Music Centre in Sydney, Australia.

June 9, 2011: Brian commissioned by the 5-Penny New Music Ensemble (Ensemble de musique contemporaine du gros 5 sous) of Sudbury, Ontario to write a new work for their 2012-2013 Season.

April 18, 2011: Brian awarded an honourable mention by the Canadian League of Composers 60th Anniversary Composition Competition for his work Gregarious Machines, commissioned by ECM+ for Génération 2008.

February 17, 2011: Brian awarded a SOCAN Foundation Residency Grant with Trio '86 and the Cluster Festival (Winnipeg, March 24-26, 2011).

February 3, 2011: Brian announced as a winner in the ISCM-Wiener Jeunesse Chor vocal music competition! He will write a set of choral miniatures using nonsense text for the choir for performance in early 2012.

January 31, 2011: Brian awarded an Ontario Arts Council Grant to compose a new work for Montreal's Trio '86.

January 10, 2011: Brian commissioned by Code d'accès of Montreal to compose a new work for baritone singer and ensemble, for performance in Spring 2012.

January 4, 2011: Brian commissioned by Ensemble Contemporain de Montreal+ and Ensemble de Flûtes Alizé to compose a new work for flute octet.

October 2010: Brian commissioned by soprano Carla Huhtanen to write a song cycle for soprano and piano, in collaboration with writer David Brock, to be performed at the Canadian Opera Company's Noon Concert series during the 2011-2012 Season.

July 2010: In collaboration with Evolucidanse, Harman will write a new large-scale work for solo piano and solo dancer in 2011 for performance during the 2011-2012 season.

June 2010: Brian Harman chosen as composer-in-residence for Ensemble Portmantô's inaugural 2010-2011 season. Several works will be performed in Montreal over the coming year. More details TBA.

February 2010: The Montréal-based Journal Circuit will publish Harman's article analyzing Ana Sokolovic's Géometrie Sentimentale in the Autumn of 2010.

Nov 15, 2009: Harman accepted as an associate composer with the Canadian Music Centre..

Nov 9, 2009: Latitude 45 Arts Promotion awarded "Artist/Manager of the Year" and Nathaniel Dett Chorale awarded "Touring Artist of the Year" for 2008-2009 at the Annual CAPACOA Awards. Harman is affiliated as an agent with Latitude 45 Arts and spearheaded the planning for the choir's tour of Western Canada.

Nov 8, 2009: Dialectics, for wind ensemble, performed as a finalist in the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra International Composition Competition at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Space, Tokyo, Japan.

Sept 4, 2009: Dialectics , for wind ensemble, advances to the finals of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra International Composition Competition after a live performance of the work for the jury. The work was selected as a semi-finalist in May, 2009.
